Castle Inspired Bathroom Remodel
Its not everyday a client gives a brief of an old castle inspired space. I was excitrd about this prospect because I love different styles and bringing out each individual clients style out in their home. After all a space should reflect the clients asethetic not the designers.
Upon entering the space I knew we needed to adress some space planning to make the room as functional as possible. She wanted a tub deck and the way it was as is there was no room to increase the shower space and add that feature. Luckily with a lot of back and forth we nailed down a floorplan we loved. Below was her space as I first expierenced it:

Since we had the layout fine tuned it was time for the exciting portion of design, material selection! This client was not afraid of dark in fact she welcomed it. I was happy about this in a day and age of sad beige and boring grey it was a real treat to do something bold yet classic. When I think if castle the first few things that came to my mind were belgain bluestone and exterior stone.
Beginning with these ideas it just evolved from there. The beauty and lure of old spaces is attention to detail, ornate shapes and texurally rich materials. After much thought we landed on using belgian blue stone for the walls but to break the immense darkness a tumbled travertine on a 45 paired with bronze resin tiles became a focal point of the shower.
Knowing how magnicificent that would look I knew the tub had to be equally impressive. Wanted to tub to be an oasis and a bridge to another place and time. Thinking whimsically I was then inspired by old exterior fountains. From here I decided to clad the perimeter of the tub in an exterior stone.
Since we needed a slab of stone to flank the top I chose a black granite to harmonize with the shower tile but wanted another pattern element. We created this custom shape to mimic an old fountain look/ feel.

Really thrilled with how the space turned out!
